Lap 158 -- With two laps to go, Mark Martin moves around Dale Earnhardt Jr. for 11th spot.

Lap 157 -- Denny Hamlin and Elliott Sadler are still third and fourth, respectively, but a great distance behind the two leaders.

Lap 121 -- Carl Edwards passes Jeff Burton to take third position after the two had battled for several laps.

Lap 120 -- David Ragan is having a strong day and running in seventh. He has been in the top 10 for much of the day.

Lap 118 -- NASCAR is going to hold another competition caution on Lap 121.

Lap 117 -- Jeff Gordon moves into second position as he and Jimmie Johnson have the fastest cars on the track.

Lap 116 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jimmie Johnson goes around Jeff Burton to take the top spot once again.

Lap 114 -- Jeff Gordon has moved up to fifth position after restarting ninth. Jimmie Johnson takes second place back from A.J. Allmendinger.

Lap 113 -- Jimmie Johnson works around A.J. Allmendinger, but as the two cross the start/finish line, Allmendinger takes the spot back.

Lap 106 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jeff Burton slips below Elliott Sadler to take the lead and smashes into a bird on his windshield in the process.

Lap 98 -- Bobby Labonte is on pit road for tires with a right-front tire issue. Pit road was closed when he entered due to some drivers pitting early to take advantage of the competition cautions. Labonte was running eighth, but will be penalized for pitting early and for speeding.

Lap 97 -- Tony Stewart has dropped from fifth to ninth since the restart.

Lap 95 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. has rebounded from an earlier flat tire and now runs 16th.

Lap 92 -- NASCAR will throw another competition caution on Lap 97.

Lap 91 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jimmie Johnson goes around Carl Edwards for the top spot, and Jeff Gordon follows for second.

Lap 90 -- Tony Stewart is into the top five after passing Martin Truex Jr., who is falling quickly without fresh tires.

Lap 88 -- LEAD CHANGE: Carl Edwards dives below Martin Truex Jr. to take the lead as the four-tire cars Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon head to the front.

Lap 82 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 6: NASCAR is holding another competition caution.

Lap 81 -- Martin Truex Jr. is on pit road for right-side tires. He was running eighth.

Lap 80 -- At the halfway point, Jimmie Johnson continues to lead by a margin of 0.596 seconds on Jeff Gordon after brushing the wall coming out of Turn 2.

Lap 79 -- Denny Hamlin is up to third and having a strong day at Indy.

Lap 76 -- Jamie McMurray is running well and sits in ninth.

Lap 74 -- Brian Vickers heads to pit road for a stop. He cannot turn the full RPMs so the crew goes under the hood.

Lap 73 -- Jeff Gordon passes A.J. Allmendinger for second.

Lap 72 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jimmie Johnson makes quick work of Greg Biffle, Elliott Sadler and finally A.J. Allmendinger to take the lead once again.

Lap 72 -- NASCAR will hold another competition caution on Lap 81.

Lap 71 -- GREEN FLAG: A.J. Allmendinger gets the race back under way:

Lap 70 -- "We see this everywhere, particularly of Indy. We thought it would improve by this time, but it hasn't." -- Greg Stucker of Goodyear, noting that the Pocono backup tires are still in waiting.

Lap 69 -- LEAD CHANGE: A.J. Allmendinger inherits the lead when Brian Vickers pits.

Lap 68 -- LEAD CHANGE: Brian Vickers stays out to lead.

Lap 67 -- Leaders head down pit road:
• Jeff Burton's battery issue has stabilized; four tires
• A.J. Allmendinger gets two tires and likes his car; he's out first
• Elliott Sadler gets right-sides only and gains four spots
• Jimmie Johnson gets the same adjustments; four tires

Lap 66 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 5: The yellow is out for the competition caution.

Lap 65 -- Kyle Busch continues to slow and drops to seventh in the running order.

Lap 63 -- A.J. Allmendinger moves around Kyle Busch to take second place. Busch continues to slide.

Lap 62 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jimmie Johnson runs down and passes A.J. Allmendinger and then Kyle Busch for the lead.

Lap 59 -- Mark Martin, who had previously said he could win this race, now runs 26th.

Lap 57 -- Bobby Labonte, a former Brickyard winner, is having a strong day and runs eighth.

Lap 55 -- NASCAR will have another competition caution on Lap 64.

Lap 54 -- GREEN FLAG: Kyle Busch gets the race going again.

Lap 52 -- LEAD CHANGE: Travis Kvapil and Mark Martin give up the top spots to pit, giving Kyle Busch the lead.

Lap 50 -- LEAD CHANGE: Travis Kvapil stays out to lead. Mark Martin also stays on the track after pitting one lap prior to the caution.

Lap 48 -- Leaders are on pit road:
• Jeff Burton has a battery issue and is down to 12 volts
• Jeff Gordon gets four tires and dedicates himself to being conservative
• Jimmie Johnson gets a track-bar adjustment to get looser; four tires
• Kyle Busch gains one spot and is out first
• A.J. Allmendinger takes two tires and has a fast stop
• Matt Kenseth heads to the garage

Lap 47 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 4: Matt Kenseth spins with a blown right-rear tire. He felt the tire going two laps earlier but chose to stay out and the tire exploded, ripping the right quarterpanel off the car and dropping debris everywhere.

Lap 47 -- Carl Edwards slows with a tire issue as Sam Hornish Jr. returns from pit road after a tire problem and runs one lap down.

Lap 46 -- Mark Martin is on pit road for another early pit stop. He gets right-side tires and fuel in 6.8 seconds. He could feel the tire cords vibrating the car.

Lap 44 -- Jeff Gordon has dropped back to seventh in the running order.

Lap 43 -- Matt Kenseth is running eighth but has one of the fastest cars. Many in the garage pointed to Kenseth as being a favorite to win the race.

Lap 41 -- Kyle Busch takes second place back, passing Jeff Gordon. Carl Edwards follows.

Lap 40 -- Jeff Burton is up to sixth position. He started 32nd and has been steady the entire race.

Lap 38 -- NASCAR reports its next competition caution will be on Lap 47.

Lap 37 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jimmie Johnson swaps positions with Jeff Gordon and becomes the leader once again.

Lap 36 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jeff Gordon catches and passes Kyle Busch for the lead. Jimmie Johnson follows to take second.

Lap 35 -- GREEN FLAG: Kyle Busch gets the race back under way:

Lap 33 -- LEAD CHANGE: Scott Riggs makes his pit stop, giving way to new leader Kyle Busch.

Lap 31 -- Leaders are on pit road and teams may add fuel for the first time:

• Matt Kenseth gets four tires for the first time
• Jimmie Johnson gets four tires and a track-bar adjustment
• Kyle Busch is out first, gaining three spots
• Greg Biffle gains three positions on pit road

Lap 30 -- Juan Montoya is on pit road to make slight repairs to his car and get new tires.

Lap 30 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 3: NASCAR has a competition caution to check tire wear as well as for Juan Montoya's tire debris.

Lap 29 -- Juan Montoya blows a right-rear tire and debris flies on the track. No caution yet.

Lap 29 -- Mark Martin gives up his top-10 running position to pit early. He gets right-side tires in 6.1 seconds.

Lap 28 -- NASCAR reports a completion caution will be on Lap 30 instead of Lap 32, as reported earlier.

Lap 27 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. is on pit road for four tires and is out in 13.7 seconds. He loses a lap in the process.

Lap 26 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. is bobbling and losing positions. He reports he has a right-rear tire going down.

Lap 25 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jeff Gordon catches and passes teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the top spot.

Lap 24 -- Jeff Gordon is chasing down Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the lead. The margin is 0.84 seconds.

Lap 22 -- Kasey Kahne's crew reports there may be a cracked header or pipe on the No. 9 car; it is producing an odd noise. On the track, he drops two positions to Ryan Newman and Carl Edwards and runs sixth.

Lap 20 -- Tony Stewart is mired in the middle of the pack, running 20th.

Lap 19 -- NASCAR announces its next competition caution is scheduled for Lap 32.

Lap 18 -- Jeff Gordon dives below his teammate Jimmie Johnson to take second position.

Lap 18 -- GREEN FLAG: Dale Earnhardt Jr. gets the race back under way.

• Jeff Gordon gets right-side tires only
• Ryan Newman takes right-sides only
• Jimmie Johnson gets two tires and is out first
• David Ragan is out ninth, but he gained three positions

Lap 15 -- Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch limp down pit road to assess damage. Harvick's front wheels are locked, and he has significant rear damage.

Lap 14 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 2: Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch crash hard into the wall through Turn 1. Busch lost it coming out of the corner and turned down into Harvick's car, sending both into the wall.

Lap 13 -- David Reutimann, in 29th, slaps the wall.

Lap 11 -- Juan Montoya started 13th and has moved up to seventh.

Lap 10 -- GREEN FLAG: Jimmie Johnson gets the field back up to speed.

Lap 7 -- Pit road is open as NASCAR decides to change the competition caution to Lap 14. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is one of the takers, among 13 others. Earnhardt gets tires and a close look if the car has damage.

Lap 5 -- Paul Menard is on pit road for repairs. He collected some cosmetic damage when trying to go by the spinning Michael Waltrip.

Lap 4 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 1: Michael Waltrip spins into the wall hard in Turn 2 with heavy rear damage. Waltrip got loose as he was racing below Sam Hornish Jr.

Lap 3 -- Jeff Gordon slips around Mark Martin in Turn 4 as everyone falls into a single-file line.

Lap 2 -- Carl Edwards and Dale Earnhardt Jr. go low coming out of Turn 2 as the cars fight for position. Both drivers nearly went into the grass.

Lap 1 -- Jimmie Johnson pulls out to lead the first lap with Mark Martin behind him as cars jockey for position.

2:22 p.m. -- GREEN FLAG: Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin get the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard under way.

2:12 p.m. -- Cars are rolling onto the flat surface.

2:09 p.m. -- Mari Hulman George, IMS chairman of the board, delivers the command: "Gentlemen, start your engines!"

2:02 p.m. -- Daniel Rodriguez, former New York policeman, sings the national anthem.

2:01 p.m. -- Rev. Howard Brammer delivers the invocation.

2 p.m. -- NASCAR holds a moment of silence to honor Steve Peterson, the series' technical director who died last week.

1:14 p.m. -- Due to tire concerns, NASCAR will have a competition caution on Lap 10.
