AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Here is a lap-by-lap account of the Subway Fresh 500 at Phoenix International Raceway:

  • Lap 312: Kurt Busch beats Michael Waltrip by a second-and-a-half to win the Subway Fresh 500. It is Busch's first win since Loudon last September.

    Lap 300: Michael Waltrip has gotten to Kurt Busch's bumper.

    Lap 296: Ryan Newman hits the Turn 4 wall, keeps going. No caution.

    Lap 294: Kurt Busch leads his 200th lap of the night.

    Lap 291: Jeff Burton is up to third.

    Lap 287: Johnny Sauter passes Ryan Newman for 11th. Sauter is the leading Dodge.

    Lap 283: Carl Edwards cracks the top-10 after being two laps down.

    Lap 274: Jeff Burton takes fifth from Kevin Harvick.

    Lap 269: Kurt Busch takes lead from Michael Waltrip.

    Lap 265: Kurt Busch takes second from Brian Vickers.

    Lap 263: Kurt Busch takes third from Kevin Harvick.

    Lap 262: Michael Waltrip takes lead from Brian Vickers

    Lap 257: Kurt Busch is already up to fifth.

    Lap 250: Michael Waltrip gets back around Harvick for second.

    Lap 247: Kevin Harvick takes second from Michael Waltrip.

    Lap 244: Green flag. Brian Vickers leads. 68 laps to go.

    Lap 239: Brian Vickers stays out, takes lead. Michael Waltrip also stays out and will restart second. Kurt Busch pits and will restart ninth. Jeff Gordon and Bobby Labonte are right behind Busch.

    Lap 238: Caution is out for a Turn 4 crash involving Ken Schrader, Scott Wimmer and Travis Kvapil. Carl Edwards is the Lucky Dog.

    Lap 232: Carl Edwards is the only car one lap down.

    Lap 227: Kurt Busch takes lead from Jeff Gordon. Joe Nemechek gets around Gordon for second.

    Lap 225: Green flag. Jeff Gordon leads.

    Lap 222: Jeff Gordon stays out and takes lead. Michael Waltrip came in and got four tires and restarts 17th.

    Lap 221: Caution is out Casey Mears' crash. Quickie yellow.

    Lap 220: 28 cars on the lead lap

    Lap 218: Kurt Busch is already up to fourth

    Lap 212: Michaal Waltrip has 60 laps in his tires. Jeff Gordon, who is running second, has on 20 on his.

    Lap 211: Green flag. Michael Waltrip leads. Michael Waltrip, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Joe Nemechek, Jimmie Johnson, Ryan Newman and Scott Riggs all didn't pit.

    Lap 208: Michael Waltrip gambles, staying out to take the lead. Kurt Busch's crew gives him a beautiful stop, as he beats Brian Vickers out of the pits. Vickers comes out second, and Kevin Harvick comes out third.

    Lap 206: Big crash in Turn 3. Caution is out. Jimmie Johnson hit Tony Stewart's rear, setting off a crash-reaction crash that involves Ricky Rudd, Rusty Wallace, Ken Schrader and Dave Blaney.

    Lap 204: Brian Vickers leads his 25th lap.

    Lap 195: Green flag. Brian Vickers leads.

    Lap 192: Leaders all stay out.

    Lap 190: Caution is out for debris. Jeremy Mayfield gets the Lucky Dog.

    Lap 180: Brian Vickers takes lead from Kyle Busch. Seventh different leader.

    Lap 179: Carl Edwards spins in Turn 4. No caution. Edwards to pit road. He is speeding in the commitment line and will go two laps down.

    Lap 177: Casey Mears to pit road with a tire problem. Race stays green.

    Lap 176: Green flag. Kyle Busch leads.

    Lap 184: Greg Biffle behind the wall for radiator repairs.

    Lap 183: Caution is out. Kyle Petty spins. Fifth caution of the night. Travis Kvapil is the Lucky Dog.

    Lap 171: Kyle Busch, who restarted second after a two-tire stop, takes lead from Schrader.

    Lap 170: Green flag. Ken Schrader leads. Schrader didn't make a pit stop.

    Lap 168: Pit stops begin. Kurt Busch is first in, first out with a 13.6-second stop. Greg Biffle runs into Mike Bliss on pit road and has moderate front-end damage. He will have to come in for a second top. Nice stop for Brian Vickers, who comes off pit road second.

    Lap 167: Matt Kenseth cuts a tire and slams the wall. Caution is out.

    Lap 166: 26 cars on the lead lap.

    Lap 161: Kurt Busch has led 156 laps. He will officially lead the most laps tonight.

    Lap 156: Halfway.

    Lap 148: Kurt Busch takes lead back from Greg Biffle.

    Lap 147: Greg Biffle takes lead from Kurt Busch. He is the fourth different leader.

    Lap 146: Green flag. Kurt Busch leads.

    Lap 144: Race has resumed under caution after a seven-minute red flag.

    Lap 143: Red flag is out. Power outage at the track. Track does not expect this to be a lengthy red flag.

    Lap 134: Tony Stewart is back in for a second stop to repair front-end damage. He will be the last car on the lead lap.

    Lap 133: Stops begin. Kurt Busch leads again off pit road and Greg Biffle is second. Brian Vickers is up to third. Kevin Harvick is fourth, Matt Kenseth is fifth and Jimmie Johnson is sixth. Waltrip has a slow stop -- it sends him back to seventh.

    Lap 132: Caution is out for debris. Jeff Green gets the Lucky Dog Pass. Expect everyone on pit road.

    Lap 131: Kurt Busch leads by about a second. He's led all but one lap.

    Lap 130: 26 cars on the lead lap.

    Lap 123: Michael Waltrip to third

    Lap 120: 30 cars on the lead lap. Kasey Kahne last car on the lead lap.

    Lap 118: Michael Waltrip to fourth

    Lap 114: Kurt Busch's lead is back to near 1.5 seconds.

    Lap 110: 32 cars on the lead lap.

    Lap 107: Michael Waltrip back into the top five.

    Lap 100: Greg Biffle has finally gotten to within a second of Kurt Busch.

    Lap 95: Brian Vickers is having a fine race in third, but he is five full seconds back.

    Lap 88: Robby Gordon to the garage

    Lap 87: Kurt Busch has led 85 of 87 laps.

    Lap 82: Kurt Busch already back out to a half-second lead.

    Lap 73: 33 cars are on the lead lap. Sterling Marlin will get the Lucky Dog is a yellow comes out.

    Lap 68: Bobby Hamilton Jr. to the garage

    Lap 71: Green flag. Kurt Busch leads.

    Lap 69: Scott Riggs stays out, takes lead.

    Lap 69: The cars not on the lead lap come down pit road for service.

    Lap 68: Pit stops begin. A good stop (14.4 seconds) for Kurt Busch. Busch leads off pit road. Greg Biffle retains second. Looks like Michael Waltrip lost a couple of spots.

    Lap 67: Caution is out for debris. Travis Kvapil gets the Lucky Dog pass.

    Lap 64: Expect green-flag stops around Lap 85 if no caution.

    Lap 63: Kurt Busch leads Greg Biffle by four seconds

    Lap 58: Pole-sitter Jeff Gordon is running eighth, but he is 10 seconds back.

    Lap 56: Only 36 cars are still on the lead lap. Casey Mears is next on Kurt Busch's list.

    Lap 53: Carl Long to the garage

    Lap 53: Still only one caution. Race has been under green for 49 of the 53 laps.

    Lap 47: Michael Waltrip cracks the top six. He started 28th.

    Lap 45: Kurt Busch has led all 45 laps, but Greg Biffle is slightly closing in. Busch still has a 2.5-second lead.

    Lap 36: Kurt Busch already has a two-second lead.

    Lap 34: Kurt Busch starts the catch the rear of the field.

    Lap 30: Kurt Busch has led all 30 laps

    Lap 22: Kurt Busch already has a one-second lead.

    Lap 17: Green flag. Kurt Busch leads.

    Lap 14: Leffler will go a lap down.

    Lap 13: Caution out for Jason Leffler spin after contact from Sterling Marlin. Travis Kvapil slapped the wall and will head to pit road to have it checked out. Marlin also pits to repair front-end damage.

    Lap 10: Kurt Busch has led all 10 laps

    Lap 5: Jeff Gordon loses second place to Greg Biffle

    Lap 1: Kurt Busch passes Jeff Gordon and leads the first lap

    Pre-race: Kevin Lepage and Robby Gordon changed engines and will start in the rear. Mike Wallace will start in the rear after his team made unapproved adjustments.
